Debbie and I listened to D&C 67-70, Come Follow Me with Jared Halverson this morning. Joseph Fielding McConkie was asked what his grandfather, Joesph Fielding Smith's, secret was to mastering the scriptures. He answered without hesitation, consistency, and intensity. Example of brushing teeth once a week with enough toothpaste to make up for the other 14 times during the week you should have read. Also the example of the orange. Boys in the seminary class were asked to see if they could squeeze all the juice out of the orange. Each took turns squeezing with all their might. The more of an effort you put into squeezing an orange you have cut open, the more juice you will get from the orange. It is the same with the scriptures. The more effort you put into squeezing (studying with consistency and intensity) the more knowledge you will gain from them. I sent this to Sister Alexander McAlpin and those of the family on her link along with the picture of an orange with scriptures written inside and a picture of orange juice.
